Delivering Cultural Probes

To find out about the daily lives of teenagers with type 1 diabetes and their requirements of medical devices I delivered 'cultural probes'.  Where participant observation would usually be helpful, these teenagers were very conscious of drawing attention, and some had not told friends about their medical condition. Using cultural probes, allowed teenagers to document their own lives without causing distress and share them with me.

In one activity teenagers labelled their medical devices with coloured dots: green dots for positive device features, red dots for negative features, and blue dots for desired features.
